Nine Head for the Rhine
After a fabulous time at the Dutch International Rally in June, Nine members of C4 head for Germany.
Malcolm and Denise Chance, Ray and Manuela Pascoe, Barry Doyle and Lorraine Biggins, Barry Price and friend Jan and myself head off from the Rally to Dusseldorf. The first objective was to meet with Manuela’s parents, whom I have to say made us extremely welcome. From there, we headed to the campsite and set up the tents for a couple of days to relax. Spending time under canvas was something I haven’t done for years, and after aching from head to foot, don’t think I will be doing it again soon!!
From Dusseldorf the gang headed for Cochem which is a lovely town on the Mosel River. After another couple of good days arranged by Ray and Manuela ,we left for Fussion in Southern Germany. Up to this point the weather had been kind to us, but things were about to change!!
After a few hours on the road the rains came and with great reluctance we had to pull over at Elm, but as tough north easteners, we went on undeterred to Fussion - very wet. Tents were pitched in the pouring rain but a few of us still managed to visit Austria and Switzerland, over the next couple of days, again in the rain. The visit was good but heavy going because of the poor weather. After sticking it out for three days in very heavy rains and Malcolm and Denise having to ditch their tent it was decided to head for sunnier climes.
Thankfully at this point I was able to pass on my tent to a much more worthier cause – Malcolm and Denise. Barry, Lorriaine and myself decided to head for the Rhine whilst the others headed for Arnhem in southern Holland. It only took an hour of riding to rediscover clear skies and sunshine. After a brilliant seven hour ride to the Rhine, the three of us relaxed with a good meal and a beer – well okay a few!! The next day we headed for Arnhem to meet up with the others. We all had an excellent couple of days together before heading for Ferry home.
Thanks to everyone for a fantastic time.
Bob Aaron.
