Charity Night Out
Saturday 24th January marked for Graeme and I the beginning of the party season 2009. As an almost middle aged, almost child free couple we are determined to grow old disgracefully and to make the most of the opportunities that come along to have a good time.
As Graeme is now centre 4 rep’ we intend to dedicate this year to building up the centre and by having as much fun as we can. So when we were invited by our good friends (and former club members) Ali and Ken to attend a fund raising event we jumped at the chance. Also jumping at the chance were Malcolm and Denise and Barrie, all from centre 4

Barrie had been fund raising for ages in fact his project was just over a year old. For those of you who know Barrie (and lets face it if you haven’t met him by now where the hell have you been!!) Barrie has been growing his golden curly locks for a whole year, he had promised Ali and Ken that he would have his head shaved for their charity but at that time it did not mean much as he wore his hair short anyway.
For those of us in the know the development that was Barrie’s hair was no surprise but from those friends not in the know he received puzzled looks, as the hair took on a shape and personality all of its own, so the questions about Barrie’s sanity multiplied.
Anyway, as you now know Barrie had his head shaved at the party and raised a fantastic £750 and still counting.
Ken and Ali had put a bus on for the night which was fab and caused a great deal of laughter when firstly the girls almost missed it because they could not run in their stilettos and Ken could be heard roaring over the entire estate
“Hurry up you slappers!”
Next Ken forgot to tell the bus driver to stop at the next pick up and there were some bemused upturned faces on the side of the road as the bus sailed past. No problem there we just stopped on the duel carriageway and let the rest of the traffic sort its self out!
We all had a really fun time, we were even joined by some special guests from Centre 5(Maggie and partner) who had driven up to support the event. There is a lesson to be learned here people……….If you are travelling to the north east and need a place to lay your head, please contact us before you spend money on a hotel. Centre 4 have people with spare rooms and sofa beds, cheaper than a hotel, warmer than camping and the showers are hot.
On a personal note, this night out gave me a chance to put on some slap, high heels and go as a girl for a change! I love rallies and have been going to them for years but how do other girls do it? It remains a mystery to me how some girls manage to camp and take their entire make-up and shoe collection. I digress.

A big congratulations to Ali and Ken for their fantastic work, so far they have collected an amazing £2,450 and money is still coming in, also a big thank you for putting on such a great party (Ali rides with The Maidens who’s do it was) the money collected was donated to Breast Cancer and the party is an annual event.
SOOOOOO if you want to come next year let us know. Tickets are only a few quid but they are limited.
I would like to end this rambling with a small teaser.
In order to raise more funds the good maidens put together ‘booty’ bags
Yes that right, ‘booty’ bags just like the ones the children get when they go to a party. Only this was a grown-ups party and he contents of the bags were donated by an ‘adult’ shop!!!!
I confess Graeme and I bought two and I just want to say a huge thank you to the shop for hours of fun which brings me back to my first paragraph about growing old disgracefully!
No. I will never tell what was in the bag, if you want to find out you will have to attend next years fund raiser and see for yourself.
Hope to see everyone soon enjoy 2009 and make the most of what’s on within the club.
